Story Hour

EVERY THURSDAY, 4:00-5:00 PM

On Thursday each week, children of all ages gather in Wasahn Kamarain, the Children's section of Pohnpei Public Library, to listen to stories, sing songs, play games, and do creative craft activities all focused around a monthly theme. Although Story Hour is open to everyone, the material is designed specifically for 1st through 6th graders.

Two books are featured each session and read aloud by members of the staff, participating Peace Corps Volunteers, or guests. Following the readings, children are given a chance to answer comprehension questions about the book and are then organized into groups for the craft portion of the program, intended to reinforce and expand upon the topics presented in the storybooks. The Story Hour program aims to get kids interested in reading, stories, and books and boost literacy levels. It also helps them develop their creative abilities and gives them a chance to socialize with their peers in a safe, educational environment. Between 30 and 50 children participate each week.
