Summer Reading Program 2014 Celebration

The Pohnpei Public Library celebrated the Summer Program 2014 on July 18, 2014. There was a short program that was prepared for the day, the participants sang a song entitled “Open Shut”. Head Librarian welcomed everyone to the short program and thanked participants, volunteers and parents for their assistance during the four weeks program. All the participants received certificates and prizes presented by the staff. Head Librarian also handed out certificates to the contributors and volunteers for this year on behalf of the Friends of the Pohnpei Public Library.
The Theme for this year’s Summer Program was “FIZZ BOOM READ”. From the theme, the staff shared stories and provided activities for the kids mostly on science experiments. These activities were sent in a manual by the Collaborative Summer Library Program in Iowa.  The kids learned songs, made crafts and enjoyed other fun and educational activities. The Program was funded through a grant from Australian Foreign Aid. Vital FSM PetroCorp also assisted in providing some gifts and prizes for the participants. One of the goals was to increase the number of participants, with over 100 students registered in the program, the library met their goal. This Summer Reading has been very successful with the involvement of the volunteers, parents, participants and the contributors for this year. Friends of the Pohnpei Public Library would like to thank the Australian Embassy, Vital FSM PetroCorp, volunteers, parents and all the supporters for the Pohnpei Public Library.
