Hugh the Guitar Man Brings the Blues to the Pohnpei Public Library

Learning About Music With Hugh at the Pohnpei Public Library

The Pohnpei Public Library is a wonderful space that welcomes everyone from everywhere, and the beauty of that includes the surprise visits from some of the most intriguing characters passing through the doors. For today, we got a chance to welcome Hugh from Australia, a solo traveler and guitar maker that loves to play blues. We are all about upholding the rules here at our little reading haven, but of course our main goal is to encourage learning and Hugh was here to teach us about the types of guitars there are and the wonderful music genres these instruments of magical tunes can bring to life. In an instant, the kids section was reverberating with sounds off a Spanish guitar enchanting this mellow space with colorful sounds. It is truly amazing how much we get to see here as Friends of the Pohnpei Public Library. Thank you Mr. Hugh for dazzling our little young visitors and staff with your gift and art!

Friends of the Pohnpei Public Library presents at the FSM Judicial Training Conference

Libraries and Law: FPPL at the FSM Judicial Training 2025

Mr. Andrew Trigg (FPPL Volunteer), Nercy Simina (Library of Congress), Jordan Ligorio (Library Aide-FPPL), Beauleen Carl-Worswick, (Associate Justice, FSM Supreme Court), Mary Gilmete (Library of Congress), Betty William (FSM National Archivist)

The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Judicial Training 2025 brought together judges, clerks, and legal professionals from across the nation for an intensive program designed to strengthen the judiciary’s efficiency and effectiveness. The training focused on equipping participants with updated knowledge, tools, and best practices in areas such as legal research, case management, court procedures, and compliance standards. It was an important step toward ensuring that the FSM judiciary continues to uphold the highest standards of justice and accessibility for all.

As part of the program, the Friends of the Pohnpei Public Library was invited to deliver a presentation highlighting the intersection of information management and judicial practice. The session was presented by Mr. Andrew Trigg, an Australian Volunteer working with the library, and Mr. Jordan Ligorio, the Library Aide. Together, they shared insights into:

  • Steps in information management – how information can be systematically collected, organized, and retrieved efficiently.

  • Preservation of information and data – practices to safeguard records for long-term accessibility.

  • Court compliance considerations – aligning information handling with legal and regulatory standards to support transparency and accountability.

The presentation was well received and underscored the importance of libraries and information professionals in supporting not just education and community learning, but also critical institutions like the judiciary. By bridging the fields of librarianship and law, the Friends of the Pohnpei Public Library contributed to strengthening the foundations of justice in the FSM.
