Library Week 2015

This year Pohnpei Public Library celebrated its 27th Anniversary with a “Library Week,” from Monday, April 6 to Friday, April 10. The theme for this year’s celebration was “EVERY HERO HAS A STORY”. On April 7 and 8, International organization of Migration (IOM) was invited to share stories and activities in preparation of drought. A movie was held on Thursday night of that week to end the event before the ceremony on Friday. In addition, some students from public and private schools from K-5 to 12th grade competed in art and essay contest on the theme.

On Friday evening, the library held a special celebration to commemorate the anniversary and to recognize essay and art contest winners. This event began with a prayer by Wahnporon Perdus Ehsa.   Friends of the Pohnpei Public Library (FPPL) Fundraising Chairperson, Dr. Rufino Mauricio, who is also the Secretary of the Department of FSM Education welcomed everyone. This year, library was fortunate to have Ms. Jennifer Heliaiser, Director of the College of Micronesia-LRC, to be the Keynote Speaker of the evening.


The program ended with the presentations of awards to the students who were selected as winners for the art and essay contest. Art winners were Elias Tom K-5 St.Paul, Latoya Ladore 1st Awak Elem. School, Neveah Sky Olter 1st St. Paul, Alyssa Soriano 2nd CCA, Sean Aquinaldo 2nd CCA, Mati Y. Santos 3rd St. Paul, Christen Kalio ECE    Lukop, Louisantra Salle 3rd Lukop,  Platon Pelep 8th Nett, Johnny Martin  11th OLMHS. Donovan Jay Mihkel 12th NMHS.
