Atail Wasahn Kamarain!
Happy Library Week Everyone! April 6-12 was National Library Week and we want to look back and celebrate the people tht have supported us and continue to help us along with a special guest visitor that was a part of the beginnings of Pohnpei Public Library in 1998.
In the last few weeks, story hour has been sustained by the staff of the PPL along with volunteer readers like Ms. Asenaca Tamanitoakula from Fiji and Ms. Lorelei Aldis a local volunteer studying at PICS High School.
The months March and April have so far focused a lot on Women's Day, Cultural Day, Easter and even a bit of silly wacky April Fool's themed reads. The little ones have done lots of activities after the story hour reads including creating their own funny looking library monsters that adorn the Kids Section along with lots and lots of other crafts that we display throughout the library. The beaming kiddos are always super satisfied to see their work shown proudly on the walls and we enjoy the happy energy it brings.
The Pohnpei Public Library was introduced to the Follet system by Mrs. Patricia Cutright in 1998 which helped sunstantially with organising the library resources. She is a proud author of "Native Women" available at the library and on Amazon. Thank you Mrs. and Mr. Cutright for the lovely visit that woke us to the amazing origin story of the very place we run. We honour Penny Weilbacher and her family for their great effort that has produced a gem in the community. Kalahngan and thank you all!
Kalahngan to all the visitors and supporters of our little reading haven, we are always happy to have more readers join us here. Please keep supporting your local library by visiting us, keeping up with us in our blog and facebook page! Afterall, this is a library by the people and for the people of Pohnpei.
Up next, we are heading out into schools in Salapwuk, Temwen and Parem island! Stay tuned and keep your eyes extremely peeled for updates! We will be closing out the April month by hosting a final closing day event for Library Week at the Pohnpei Public Library, details will be shared soon. 😁
