Cluster 3 Explores, Learns, and Grows

Day Out with the 2025 Summer Reading Program

Our 2025 Summer Reading Program continues to build momentum, and this time it was the turn of Cluster 3—19 enthusiastic students from 6th to 8th grade. The day’s goal was simple but meaningful: to explore, learn, and connect with the important sites and organizations of Pohnpei, all while building friendships and growing their love for learning.

We started the morning at the Pohnpei Public Library, where the kids took part in a fun and interactive ice breaker activity. This gave everyone a chance to introduce themselves, make new friends, and set a positive tone for the day.

Once the introductions were done, the group set off next door for their first big experience: a guided tour of the Botanical Garden Nan Pwunsoh/Dipisiohn, led by the knowledgeable and welcoming staff from the Department of Resources and Development, Pohnpei State Government.

During the tour, the students learned about some of the key plants found at the garden’s entrance, many of which hold cultural, ecological, or economic importance for the people of Pohnpei. The group also got a chance to visit the Department’s office, where they learned more about the role the department plays in managing and protecting Pohnpei’s natural resources.

One of the highlights of the morning was watching a live seedling planting demonstration. The students were shown how to properly plant a seedling, and then each of them got the chance to plant their own seedling—a small but meaningful contribution to the garden and to Pohnpei’s environment.

By the end of the visit, the kids left with new knowledge, new friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world around them.

This special day was not only about reading and learning from books but also about experiencing real-world lessons that help shape responsible and informed future citizens. We’re so proud of Cluster 3 and can’t wait for more learning adventures ahead!
