Lamp General Assembly

On Friday, February 27, the Pohnpei Public Library proudly hosted the General Assembly of the LAMP (Libraries, Archives, and Museums of Pohnpei). This gathering marked the first time that librarians, archivists, educators, and community leaders from across the island came together under one umbrella to strengthen collaboration and chart a shared vision for the future of knowledge and cultural preservation in Pohnpei.

The assembly brought together a diverse group of participants, including librarians from both public and private schools, staff from the FSM Congress and FSM Supreme Court Libraries, representatives from the Historic Preservation Office and the National Archives, as well as officials from the Pohnpei State Department of Education and respected community leaders. Their presence underscored the importance of building bridges between institutions that safeguard knowledge, culture, and history.

A highlight of the assembly was a special presentation by Mrs. Karleen Manuel and Mrs. Juvelle Recana from the College of Micronesia–FSM in Palikir. Their presentation offered important updates on the LAMP program, including future plans aimed at expanding resources, strengthening professional development, and enhancing community learning initiatives. Their insights emphasized the power of collaboration and the role of libraries as vital centers of knowledge and community engagement.

Events such as this General Assembly are more than just meetings, they are milestones in the ongoing effort to ensure that the people of Pohnpei have access to quality library services and educational opportunities. By working together, libraries, archives, and museums can amplify their impact and better serve the public.

The Pohnpei Public Library extends its heartfelt gratitude to all who attended and contributed to the success of this first assembly. The spirit of partnership and shared purpose demonstrated during the gathering will continue to guide LAMP’s mission of advancing learning, preserving heritage, and strengthening community ties across the island.
