Summer Reading Program 2026 Officially Begins! 📚✨

Today, we proudly opened our Summer Reading Program 2026 under this year’s inspiring theme, “Unearth a Story.” Our journey began with Cluster 1, which combines rising K5 to rising 2nd grades, welcoming eager students in two lively sessions One in the morning and another in the afternoon. The day was filled with excitement, curiosity, and the shared joy of discovering stories together.

This year’s theme invites participants to dig deeper not only into books and imagination but also into the roots of our own island. As we “unearth” stories, we begin with one of Pohnpei’s oldest legends: the Octopus story, which tells how our island was first formed through courage, cooperation, and creation.

Through this legend, we take a small step toward indigenizing our library, starting small, by celebrating the stories that shaped who we are. During this years summer reading program, our young readers will explore tales that connect them to Pohnpei’s heritage, reminding us that every story, like our island, begins with something waiting to be discovered.

We look forward to seeing our readers learn, create, and grow as they uncover the treasures hidden within books and within the stories of our land. Kalahngan to everyone who joined us for opening day. This is only the beginning of the stories waiting to be unearthed and the legends waiting to be retold.
