Cluster One Explorers' Orientation
Theme: The Adventure Begins at the Library
The first day of the Pohnpei Public Library's Summer Reading Program for 2024 for Cluster 1 commenced and it was a blast! The flood of little travelers was a refreshingly exciting touch to the library's environment this summer. With a lovely turn out the, little adventurers enjoyed multiple activities that were not only vital in developing skills for the year they are advancing to but also super fun and exciting for the kiddos. In anlignment with the goal of making learning a fun activity, we had them sing along to songs and dance whilst identifying objects and doing several types of comprehension exercises relevant to their level.
Leading the morning session were Elder Tawana Christensen and...from the Mormon Church of Jesus Christ along with some of our SDA student Volunteers (Isabella Yoma, Mara Halstead, Mellyan Nelson, Yosphina Fupul, Maxon Tom, and Evamarie Porter) as well as volunteering community member Zac Petrini and Anthony R. Tecson.
Elder Christensen also donated 250 books to the Pohnpei Public Library! What a blessed day indeed, we are so happy to have recieved so much help from Elder Christensens and would like to give a huge word of thanks to the sender of the books Kate, Forrest, Grady, Penny and Henry Ogborn from Utah. The Board is absolutely thankful for the kind gestures of the couple, they have volunteered alo to their time during reading hours for the last several weeks in which they have also donated more amazing reading books for the kids section, chairs and little bracelets for the reading hour kids that attend every Thursday sent in from their family members in America. Thank you kindly Mr. and Mrs. Christensen! You are absolutely appreciated.
The Afternoon Session was lead by Margie Tecson, who in her free time comes by to the public library and volunteers regularly for these summer events with the kids. Margie glided into the kids section in her butterfly costume ready to breathe life into the days session. The decorations for the library for the Summer Reading Program are all through the devoted efforts of Mrs. Tecson as well as our volunteers. Margie is currently an instructor at Pohnpei Island Central High School. She is a passionate and experienced teacher from the Phillipines that brings the life to the party. All the lessons contained a lovely set of activities that enriched the building with laughter and giggles as the kids engaged their creativity and imagination with creating little insects using colored paper, scissors and glue. In these lessons the kids are refining their mechanical skills using these materials and following along with the songs and stories. They colored and presented their works and by the end, everyone was screaming, "We are Adventurers" on their way out.
Thank you everyone for all the work and help. We are geared up and ready for tomorrow Cluster 2! All the materials used are sponsored by NACH (National Archives Cultural and Historical Preservation) and the vendors that are regularly able to meet our bulky requests in this summer adventure time to bring this opportunity to our kids. Thank you truly, we appreciate you all as well. We hope that as you see these pictures you feel within yourselves the satisfaction of knowing that you were part of creating something great with us this summer for our little ones. Kalahngan lap maingko! Stay tuned and enjoy 😁
