Feeling Like a Kid Again!

A Special Story Hour with 1st Lt. Emily Zito and the U.S. Navy

This past week, our library was filled with excitement, laughter, and wide-eyed curiosity as the children eagerly awaited the arrival of two very special guests. Long before story hour even began, little voices could be heard asking, “Are they coming today?” And when 1st Lt. Emily Zito of the U.S. Marine Corps and her comrade from the U.S. Navy walked through our doors, the room lit up with smiles.

These two highly respected service members—dedicated not only in their fields but also to the joy of giving back—took the time to sit down and share stories with more than twenty children from all around. They read aloud with warmth and expression, turning each page into a new adventure. The children listened intently, laughed at the funny moments, and clapped with delight as the stories came to life before their eyes.

It wasn’t just a story hour—it was a memory in the making. Seeing leaders who serve with such honor take the time to nurture a love of reading reminded us all of the power of community, kindness, and connection.

As the final story ended and the last goodbyes were said, the children knew they would miss their special readers dearly. We, too, hope this isn’t the last time we’ll see 1st Lt. Zito and her Navy comrade. Perhaps next time, it will be for a relaxing vacation—one where they can enjoy the same peace and joy they gave so freely to our little ones.

From all of us at the library: thank you for making this story hour truly unforgettable.
