The Quiet Corner

A Genuine Experience

We are happy to uphold the casual story hour reading sessions here are the Pohnpei Public Library every Thursday from 4-5pm for all the little ones looking to listen to some tales. Each story serves a purpose to teach the young ones about integrity and having a sturdy moral compass; nuggets of wisdom woven into stories to be remembered in their later years as they grow into fine men and women leading the country. It may not look it, but it can actually all start here--the wide-eyed era of curiosity and hope. All of this is tied to the culture of the island as well. We teach through a story or two and whatever they retain can serve them in the long run. This is why we cannot hog this honor, therefore, we still hope that anyone in the community with a passion to teach and share knowledge can come and join us in our little reading haven to expand the learning pool.

Here are some sneak peeks of this week's story-hour lead by our work-study student Ms. Genuine Rudolph, reading It's not my Fault by Jory John: features a character who blames inanimate objects like a pen, shoes, and a backpack for their mistakes. From this story we teach accepting accountability and braving consequences. Genuine did a great job of pulling in our sweet little book hobbits for the story plot.

This story session is then followed by a lovely coloring time focusing on the up-coming Thanksgiving season which is observed here in the islands as well!

Come again little ones 💙
